Janesville, Wisconsin — Employees at the 911 Center in Southern Wisconsin take their behind-the-scenes work seriously.
And the longtime civil servant just celebrated his 30th anniversary.
In another room around the corner from the Rock County 911 Communications Center, Geographic Information Systems Coordinator Kris Pehl sits quietly at his keyboard. On the mapping screen, he constantly corrects and updates addresses while adding aliases to his shipping software.
“I feel a responsibility because I want my location to be accurate,” Pehl says of why her passion for perfection in community emergency calls is essential.
“Location is paramount here,” said telecommunicator Matt Woodrum.
He said he appreciates Pehl coming to the center regularly to check on him and the other dispatchers. She regularly scrutinizes any mapping issues they may report.

“If Chris who gets all these address points and addresses wasn’t here if I wasn’t bothering her when something was off we would all be very lost ” Woodrum said of Pele’s attention to detail.
A motivated mother of three, she is admired by her colleagues and Motorola for going the extra mile. Her boss, Interim Assistant Kathy Churchill, director of the Rock County 911 Communications Center, called Pehl the “unsung hero” and said Pehl was their “unicorn.”
“We are very lucky,” said Churchill. “She makes us look beautiful. It starts with her GIS database. It’s not in the fun 911 movie,” Churchill said.
Mr. Churchill said it was Mr. Pail’s real dedication that underpins the Rock County 911 Communications Center’s daily success.
