Head coach Rick Burns is one of the most famous figures in college basketball history. Everywhere he coached, he achieved success and revitalized several national brands.
The North Carolina native was honored by his home state on Tuesday in recognition of his achievements. The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame will welcome Barnes and his 14 fellows to its network of honor on April 21.
Barnes released a statement through the Tennessee Department of Athletic on Tuesday, thanking those involved for helping him reach this monumental milestone.
“The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is a legendary ‘Who’s Who’ that I looked up to. To be selected as a coach, a lot of the credit is to have good staff by my side.” I’ve had it all through my career and with great players.”

It’s an incredible achievement, but Burns quickly got back to preparing for the Georgia Bulldogs. The Reds and Blacks are 13-6 this season and will face the Tennessee Volunteers on Wednesday night.
