As we start the new year, we would like to share with you an update from Reading Hospital.
First, I would have been reluctant if I didn’t take the opportunity to thank the community, the team at Tower Health, and the family at Reading Hospital for supporting me as CEO since April.
I understand the importance of this role and am truly honored to lead the team I have been a part of in my nearly 27-year career in hospitals. For more than 150 years, Reading Hospital has been a beacon of hope and healing in the community I call home. We are proud to carry this legacy forward.
The Reading Hospital team has overcome many challenges this year and continued to provide excellent care to the community. With the winter season approaching, hospitals across the country and across the country are experiencing a massive influx of flu, RSV, and COVID-19 patients. Our team is ready and taking steps to keep our patients and team members safe and healthy.
Support our efforts to prevent the spread of respiratory disease. Make sure you and your family get annual flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. With respiratory viruses prevalent in our communities, it is also recommended to wear masks in public places with large crowds, wash your hands frequently, and be especially careful when in the most vulnerable areas. To do. Older people, people with chronic diseases, and very young people.
In 2022, Reading Hospital also made progress on staffing challenges that affect many healthcare providers. By 2022 he could employ over 2,000 new team members. This includes more than 500 bedside nurses and her 248 team he members who have returned to the hospital.
They recognize that Reading Hospital is a special place and has a role to play in caring for members of the community. If you’re interested in joining our award-winning team, please visit Careers.TowerHealth.org online.
We continue to navigate our ongoing challenges, but we have much to celebrate. I am especially proud of the many accolades our hospital received last year. For the first time, Reading Hospital was named one of Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals, ranking in the top 1% of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. This prestigious award recognizes Reading Hospital’s consistently excellent clinical performance year after year.
2022, Reading Hospital:
• Ranked among the top 10 hospitals in Pennsylvania by US News & World Report.
• Five-star ratings by Healthgrades in areas such as Total Hip Replacement, Heart Valve Surgery, Stroke Treatment, Pneumonia Treatment and Heart Failure Treatment.
• Full three-year accreditation from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) as a Level I trauma center. This is the highest level of certification available for trauma care.
• Earned the Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission for Advanced Hip and Knee Replacement Accreditation for the third consecutive time.
These are just some of our awards and certifications. For more information, visit TowerHealth.org/Reading-Hospital-Awards.
In 2023, Reading Hospital will continue its community outreach. New Mobile Her Mammography Her Coach came out in her September, giving women more access to breast cancer screening.
Funded by the Reading Hospital Foundation, it plans to host 33 events and screen more than 225 patients by the end of 2022. This is just the beginning. 57 events are already scheduled for 2023, with additional events being added daily. .
We will also begin conducting a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), which identifies the top priorities in our community. Focus areas for the next three years will be access to equitable care, behavioral health, health education and prevention, and health equity.
With the completion of CHNA, our team worked with community partners and organizations to develop and deploy a CHNA implementation strategy. As each group contributes their expertise, our community becomes healthier as a result. I thank the local organizations and look forward to working with them over the next three years.
On behalf of everyone at Reading Hospital, we thank you for entrusting us with the precious gift of health for you and your family.
Dr. Charles F. Barbera is President and CEO of Reading Hospital.
