Questlove Curates 50 Years Of Hip-Hop Homage At Grammy Awards

Questlove has revealed that it co-curated a tribute to 50 years of hip-hop at this year’s Grammy Awards.

The musician broke the news with a new announcement video released yesterday (January 31), adding that he’s working on a tribute alongside some of hip-hop’s “biggest names.”

According to Questlove, the performance will mark the 50th anniversary of hip-hop’s birth and will feature a variety of acts from the genre spanning “past, present and future.”

In the video, Questlove said:

“Can you believe 50? It’s going to be an absolutely incredible moment as the genre’s biggest names come together to celebrate the history of hip-hop: past, present and future.”

Questlove goes on to say that hip-hop’s “impact on our culture and our world” is “immeasurable” and “a driving force in music and culture”.

He continues: So you have to see it.

Many artists have already been revealed to be performing at the 2023 Grammy Awards, including Lizzo, Bad Bunny, and Sam Smith.

Kim Petras will also join Smith to perform their 2022 hit collaboration, “Unholy.” Other performers confirmed for the evening include Mary J. Blige, Steve Lacy, Brandi Carlile, and Luke Combs.

Comedian Trevor Noah will host the 65th annual Grammy Awards on February 5 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the third time in a row. The nominations were announced in November, with the likes of Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Adele at the top.

All artists appearing at next month’s awards ceremony are also eligible for recognition. Bad Bunny, Carlile, Lizzo and Mary J. Blige are all nominated for Album of the Year among many other categories. Carlile has won a total of seven awards, Blige has her six and Lizzo has her five.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Nirvana, The Supremes, Nile Rodgers, Slick Rick, Hurts Ann and Nancy Wilson will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at this year’s awards ceremony.
