Teachers at Poway High School spent thousands of their own money making it easier for teens to pass advanced-level exams.
Curt Lewis is an APUS history teacher. He is also the inventor of High5wizard, a new educational app that allows users to prepare for his difficult AP exam using a smartphone app.
“I was thinking, ‘Well, what if there was an app on your phone that could help you prepare for the AP exam?’ It’s like “yeah”. “.
In 2019, Lewis created High5wizard with the help of students and engineers.
The app has been downloaded nearly 7,000 times. Lewis, who hopes to triple that number by 2023, said the app uses quizzes and games to teach English, U.S. history, government and politics, psychology, world history, statistics, and more. , says he guides students through a variety of subjects.
The longtime teacher and Iraq war veteran said he spent more than $70,000 of his own money developing High5wizard. However, he does not charge a penny to any of the students. He said he wants to make sure he can help students who may be struggling financially or who are on the road to being the first in their families to attend college.
“They’re the kids we really want to raise, and they need our special help,” Lewis said with a smile. It’s about seeing the passion that you bring in. We talk about different things and they learn.”
