PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) – As residents prepare for the first New Year’s Eve without COVID-19 restrictions since the start of the pandemic, restaurants and businesses are doing the same.
“New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are our busiest times,” says Hilda Dibe, owner of Nicholas Restaurant. 例文 Today is a holiday, everyone has a day off, so I’m generally very busy.
We met Dibe at a location in Southeast Madison. She says they will prepare extra food and bring in extra staff.
“We start at five in the morning,” Dibe said. “We make bread from scratch. We make hundreds of pita breads, baklava, tabbouleh salads, chop parsley and roll grape leaves. I believe we can serve you better than anyone else.”
In northeastern Portland, Urban Renaissance Group owner Mark Byrum said staff were busy preparing in Tualatin and several Portland locations last month.

“A lot of action, a lot of activity,” Byram said. “Our staff has been busy preparing for the multiple parties in preparation for the big night. Brix Tavern in downtown Tualatin and Portland will offer four-course menus led by DJs on both properties and on the dance floor. The Metropolitan Tavern offers full-service dinners in its open ballroom.”
Byrum says there’s still time for RSVP, but tickets sell out quickly.
“You can go online and buy tickets for any facility,” says Byram. “It sells out fast, which means everyone wants to get out and celebrate. The excitement and the fact that the number of tickets sold and the number of dinner reservations are showing a clear difference from the last two years. Together, we have thousands at our location, probably around 3,000.”
