APPLETON, Wisconsin — An Appleton police officer recently retired and found a new job in the community.
After working in law enforcement for over ten years, Ignacio Enriquez is embarking on a new path as he starts his own business designed to help others.
It’s not the work environment Enriquez is used to. In January, he retired from his Appleton Police Department and started his own business, Ascent Consulting.
“It was humbling. I learned a lot not only about the profession, but about myself and what it means to be part of a community and an advocate at the same time,” Enriquez said.
Enriquez worked for the Appleton Police Department for 15 years. He said it was hard to leave such a wonderful place.

It was a career he said he loved and had a lot of passion for, but he knew his skill set could help multiple communities. , also worked as a member of the APD’s negotiating team.
“Right now, my focus is primarily on helping other first responders and law enforcement officers with their mental health,” Enriquez said.
He does so by drawing on his life experience as an executive and his degree as a qualified professional counselor.
“We truly believe we can provide other resources for law enforcement and other first responders,” Enriquez said.
Through his business, he can help provide resources and counseling to first responders. He’s just working from a different perspective.
“I want to continue to save lives. I essentially want to continue to be a spark of hope for many people,” Enriquez said.
He said the sparks he found during his duties could be used to help others.
