3. Cyrus Chestnut
Pianist virtuoso Silas Chestnut emerged as one of the Young Lions, along with Wynton Marsalis and Terrence Blanchard, who reinvigorated jazz in the late 1980s. He played in the band of great vocalist Betty Carter in his 1990s. 5. Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
The band from Eugene, Oregon began playing ska, and their hit “Zoot Suit Riot” became an icon of the swing band revival of the late 1990s and has been around for years. 7. Homage to Tom Waring
Philadelphia drummer Tom Waring, who died in November at the age of 51, will be remembered at his Underground Arts show by many of the musicians he worked with. 8. Hip-Hop All-Stars
They kick old school at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Sunday, a throwback line-up by Public Enemy as Chuck D and Flavor Flav take the stage 35 years after the release of the 1988 classic Aji Trap. It takes millions of countries to hold us back. Kalia Vandever is an in-demand instrumentalist.
