Dane, Wisconsin — The trading industry was and still is a male-dominated industry.
Today, only 11% of construction workers are women, and Dawn McIntosh, president and CEO of CLE Construction, is doing what he can to change that.
“I am very involved in promoting the industry,” McIntosh said.
McIntosh is one of, if not the only, 100% owner of a construction company in all of Wisconsin, and through its off-site efforts, McIntosh hopes to change that.

“I was one of the co-founders of Women in the Construction Industry,” says McIntosh. “We will hold her second annual one-day conference for women on March 9.”
The construction industry currently has 334,000 job vacancies, the 10th highest number of job openings in the entire industry.
McIntosh recently brought on Mylinda Heil, Project Manager for CLE Construction, after she decided to make a career change.
“I’ve always loved trading. I grew up around three brothers,” said Heil.
Heil wants more options when it comes to dealing with children and women, especially young ones.
“I hope some high school students start thinking more seriously about what they really want instead of feeling they have to take the path of least resistance,” says Heil.
Heil has seen local high school and middle school classrooms tour the site and noticed that most of them were men.
“I’m surprised by the number of kids who actually showed interest, but I’d like to say that only 10% of the kids who turned up were girls,” Heil said.
Women often have limited options when it comes to careers that don’t require a degree, Heil said.
Many women she knows have become waitresses, nannies, and teachers, but she feels there are more opportunities for growth in the trading industry.
