GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (AP) — Aaron Rodgers pitched a late interception to help the Green Bay Packers miss the playoffs in a 20-16 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

After four straight wins and plenty of support from other teams, the Packers took control of their postseason fortunes heading into the final game of the NFL regular season. But they fell short against the Lions, who had been ruled out of the playoffs early on Sunday when the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 in overtime.
Instead, Seattle (9-8) will claim the final playoff spot in the NFC, facing San Francisco (13-4) in the opening round. The Packers (8-9) missed the playoffs for the first time in his four seasons as coach under Matt Raffler.
Rodgers recorded 17 of 27 yards for 205 yards and scored one touchdown and a crucial pick on his final pass in what was probably the final game of his four MVPs at Lambeau Field. Rodgers, 39, said he wasn’t sure he would continue playing next season.
During the game, Rodgers became the eighth NFL player to reach at least 5,000 career completions.
Jamal Williams’ second 1-yard touchdown run of the night against his former team put the Lions (9-8) ahead with 5:55 remaining. Williams scored 17 touchdown runs, breaking the Lions’ single-season record set by Barry Sanders in 1991.
Green Bay could only get up to 33 in the next series, but with three and a half minutes remaining, Kirby Joseph picked up Rodgers’ deep throws in the third and 10th. Detroit held the ball for the rest of the game.
