Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin — Upon entering, it’s easy to see why DJ’s Goalpost Bar and Grill is the go-to game day spot for avid Green Bay Packers fans. Owner Don Matovich has Green Bay gear on every wall, from autographed helmets to framed jerseys.
But lifelong fans admitted that some mid-season Packers games were difficult to watch.
“We were 4-8,” said Matovich. “And it’s been the worst season ever.”
The mood improved significantly on a recent Sunday as the Packers bounced back from an autumn chill to a four-game winning streak. His big 41-17 victory over Minnesota on Sunday drew a near-full house and led to his bar’s record one-day earnings, according to Matovich.
“Once the game started and the first big play started, the place was buzzing,” he said. “We had a lot of fun. We just went crazy.”
Ticket prices skyrocketed for Sunday’s regular-season finale against Detroit as the entire fanbase returned. said it had more than doubled in
“Essentially, no one was buying before the Vikings game,” Bryce said. “They could have bought seats last weekend for $75-$80. Now you can get in for just $175.”
On Monday, the NFL announced it had moved the Packers’ game against the Lions to prime time. Each of NFC North’s competitors has the potential to claim the 7th seed in the NFC playoffs. Bryce said the chance to see the Packers qualify for the playoffs at Lambeau Field is driving prices soaring.
“For all intents and purposes, this is a playoff game,” Bryce said. “In my opinion, I think this will be as good or better than the wild card game.”
A playoff run for Packers is always an extra boost for businesses like DJ’s Goalpost. Sunday may technically be a regular season game, but Matovich said he expects a postseason vibe.
