Our Opinion: The Fight Against Cancer Comes in 2023
Released at 5:30 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023
With the arrival of the new year comes two local campaigns: Lyle Area Cancer Auction and Paint the Town Pink.
The LAC will be held in Lyle next weekend, marking its 44th year, and the PTTP’s 12th year of fundraising for cancer research.
It’s never too early to tout the value of these large-scale initiatives. Each has its own history, but the goal is the same. It’s about finding a cure for cancer.
LAC has a long and rich history, having raised nearly $3.3 million through auctions over four years.
Since Austin Bruins hosted the first Paint the Rink Pink in 2011, PTTP’s overall commitment has grown not just to community-wide efforts, but county efforts as well. Several events have been created to help raise funds, and more are planned as the community recognizes the need for this type of research.
Each dollar collected goes directly to places like Eagles Cancer Telethon (LAC) and The Hormel Institute (PTTP). There, we hope it will be used for seed grants, leading to larger-scale research and the breakthroughs we’ve been waiting for.
We encourage you to do what you can to attend both events this month and into February. The event brought the entire county together in an unprecedented and continued push to solve one of the most important mysteries of our time.
We appreciate your continued support for this worthwhile fundraiser.
