Did you know that you can use CCleaner to optimize your apps on Windows 11? Here’s how.
CCleaner provides an easy way to manage cookies, files and temporary data on your computer. The update to CCleaner version 6.06 introduces some useful features unique to Windows 11 that make it even easier to keep your PC running smoothly and securely.
Is CCleaner safe?
CCleaner has long been a go-to tool for cleaning up Windows utilities. But in 2017, he started having problems shortly after Piriform was acquired by antivirus giant Avast.
First, the 32-bit installer was hacked to deliver a Trojan virus during the setup process. After this was fixed, Avast introduced monitoring and reporting options in their software. This can be disabled in the settings. Unfortunately, we’ve found that the reporting tool often turns itself back on without permission. These were not the only problems faced by CCleaner users.
Fast-forward to today, and is CCleaner safe to use? Previous security and privacy issues have been fixed, and no major breaches appear to have occurred in recent years. Some might argue that it should be safe to use in 2022.
Update CCleaner to version 6.06
If you have automatic updates enabled, you don’t have to worry about updating to the latest version. Just open the app and it will prompt you to update to version 6.06 or later. Here’s how to update CCleaner manually:
- Open the CCleaner app and option Tabs on the left side of the window.
- in the option menu, click update and click Check for updates.
- If there are any updates available, you will be prompted to install them. If the app is already up to date, you’ll see a message telling you so.
You can always check the current version of the CCleaner app displayed at the top of the window. To use the tools described below, you must be running version 6.06 or later.
CCleaner updates apply to both free and pro versions. If you’re using CCleaner Pro, you may see more cleaning options, but the Windows 11 apps that can be cleaned should be the same for both versions.
Optimizing Microsoft apps with CCleaner
After updating the app, you won’t notice many obvious changes. There is no brand new section like “Windows 11 users”. Instead, you’ll have to dig into custom cleaning options.
- With CCleaner open, custom clean tab. It contains a selectable list of utilities and apps to clean.
- click application Clicking on the tab reveals most of the newly added Windows 11 cleaning options.
- Here you have options to clean up Microsoft Family Safety, Windows Defender, OneDrive, and a few other new additions.
- You can also now choose to clean up all the extra widgets added in Windows 11. This option is Windows tab.
- Select the item you want to clean, run cleaner button.
Apart from these selectable cleaning options, CCleaner has been optimized to better handle existing cleaning targets. These include File Explorer, Skype, and Microsoft Edge.

Optimizing Windows 11 with CCleaner
It’s true that there are probably better tools available now, but CCleaner remains a popular and easy-to-use utility cleaner. These latest updates make it even easier for casual Windows 11 users to keep their devices running smoothly, keep their files clutter-free, and enhance their privacy.
