Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrates the birthday of 1964 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and civil rights leader, Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. He was assassinated four years after him.
This year the public holiday falls on Monday, January 16th. This is a federal holiday that closes government agencies, banks, and many corporate offices.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day opening hours and hours are as follows:
Non-essential government offices such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, Public Libraries and City Hall will be closed. State and federal courts will also be closed. Check local guidelines in advance.
The US Postal Service will be closed on Mondays, so there will be no regular mail delivery. Other delivery services, including United Parcel Service and FedEx, will remain open, while FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will change services.
The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ are closed on Mondays. Since it is a bank holiday, most banks are closed.
