MCC employees, programs honored at the event
MiraCosta College employees and one of the college’s programs were recently honored at the annual San Diego Northern Economic Development Council Awards Luncheon. The event celebrates the achievements of economic development throughout North County. Sudarshan Shaunak, an employee of MiraCosta College who helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses or start new ones, was honored at the event. Shaunak directs the North San Diego Center for Small Business Development, a university-sponsored, federally and state-funded program. The center helps people start over 650 new businesses, create or maintain over 3,700 jobs, raise $168 million in funding, and win over $616 million in government contracts. I’ve been supporting you. Shaunak’s team conducts more than 120 of his workshops and provides free one-on-one his mentoring to over 1,000 business owners each year. The 10th Annual Mickey Cafagna Memorial Golf Classic will be held March 17 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Registration is available at birdease.com/PowayChamber and sponsorships are available. The tournament was established to honor the former Mayor of Cafagna and includes 18 holes of golf, an award luncheon, game and prize draws, and an online auction of him. Harbor Freight Tools has announced that it will open a new store at 170 Knoll Road this winter. The official opening date will be announced closer to opening. Construction has already begun on the site, using local workers and businesses. The store is expected to bring 25 to 30 new jobs to the community, including sales and logistics supervisors, senior associates, sales associates and seasonal opportunities. Panera Bread opened a store at 455 Hacienda Drive near Vista Village Drive. The chain bakery offers freshly baked bagels, breads, pastries, coffee drinks, sandwiches, soups, and salads.
