Do you think your company, or another company, should be a model for other employers? If so, nominate for Minnesota’s Top Workplaces, a partnership between Star Tribune and Pennsylvania-based Energage. Please give me.
Anyone can nominate the company at startribune.com/nominate or by calling 612-605-3306. The deadline for nominations is February 10th.
Minnesota has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation, and there aren’t enough workers in the state to fill the vacancies.
In other words, employers must create a culture that encourages both employee recruitment and retention. Through surveys over the past few years, employees rated their companies highly in areas that promote retention, such as communication, leadership and benefits.
To make the final list, companies must have at least 50 employees in Minnesota to allow Energage to conduct a 24-item survey of their employees from this month through April.
A special section will be created in June to showcase the 2023 Top Workplaces winners and a luncheon will be held to honor the winners.
The Minnesota Top Workplaces program is now in its 14th year. Last year, Energage worked with 61 media partners on the Top Workplaces list and surveyed more than 2 million of her employees at more than 8,000 organizations.
Last year in Minnesota, 420 organizations and 79,658 employees participated in the survey. A total of 309 employers reached the national standards set by Energage, of which 200 were ranked on the Star Tribune list.
The Energage survey covers seven domains, including organizational health factors that measure how well employees work together toward a common purpose.
• Alignment: company direction, values and collaboration.
• Effectiveness: doing things well, sharing different perspectives, encouraging new ideas.
• Connected: Employees feel that their work is meaningful and appreciated.
• My supervisor: cares about my concerns and helps me learn and grow.
In addition, the survey asked employees about other factors.
• Employee Engagement: Loyalty, Motivation, and Referrals to Others in the Company.
• Leadership: Confidence in company leadership.
• The Basics: Payments, Benefits, Flexibility.
