Outlawz member EDI Mean, who appeared on the Holdin Court Podcast, revealed that Nick Cannon and Michael B. Jordan tried Tupac in the ‘All Eyez On Me’ biopic.
Back in 2013, LT Hutton was tasked with producing a biopic of one of the most iconic figures of our generation and who ever existed. It took him three years before filming began on the film, and he was finally released in the summer of 2017. This movie is the first of its kind when it comes to Tupac. Many documentaries and specials have been produced, but none have received as much scrutiny as the Benny Boom-directed film All Eyes on Me.
The film received mixed reviews from avid Tupac fans. The film domestically grossed him $44.9 million, but was quickly canceled due to legal troubles and declining ticket sales. According to EDI Mean, this biopic didn’t get its fair chance.
“In my opinion, they’ve given other films more chances. If you watch ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ you won’t be mistaken for a great movie, but the last 30 minutes are like, ‘Come on.'” That’s what it feels like. you know what i mean. It doesn’t beat ‘All Eyez On Me’. It doesn’t beat ‘Notorious,'” said EDI Mean on his with Holdin Court Podcast.
Perhaps no one had more weight on their shoulders than Demetrius Shipp Jr., who landed the role of Tupac. His resemblance, which at times was perfect to the point of the film, wasn’t the only reason he was blessed (or cursed to some extent) with the role. Shipps’ hard work and years of preparation have paid off.
EDI, who acted as a consultant and actor on the film, praised Shipp, Jr., but the Outlaws member said, “Pac is a really difficult energy to imitate.” “Demetrius Shipp, Jr. was a newcomer. He was not a full-time actor,” EDI said. They didn’t just hand it to him. He went to auction many times and became the perfect person for the role. I think he did a great job, especially for someone whose day job is not an actor. ”
