Reporter: A bittersweet day in this neighborhood saying goodbye to the man who delivered the mail for nearly his 30 years. >> I hate to say it, but I’ve been crying since morning. I am an almost 60 year old adult male. It really is. Reporter: When the letter carrier, Jeff Hagen, made his final round, there were some tears, but mostly smiles. >>Enjoy their charm. — retired. Reporter: Your neighbors and pets are waiting by your door to say goodbye. >>I miss you. Reporter: Today marks the end of an era. >> I am here he has lived for 26 years. I have seen my children get married. I’ve seen people driving. It’s a really great area. >> You are very loved. Reporter: One of our neighbors, Trish Rich, was there for the last delivery. >> HE is the lifeblood of this small community. He walks around with treats for the kids, dogs, always makes sure your packages are in your mail, and we wanted you to be. Showing a lot of support to the men they say they deserve. >> We had a surprise farewell party and he was really surprised. He is so humble and doesn’t realize how great he is to us. >>We miss you. Reporter: There are some things Hagen misses about work — >> I don’t miss hot and sticky days. Thank you Mark Baden. Reporter: He is forever grateful for the love and loyalty from the customers who have become his lifelong friends.>> It’s an honor to be part of this community. Enjoyed them all – I enjoyed them all and I will miss them dearly. Reporter: Jeff says he’s going to spend a lot of time with his beautiful grandchildren. Patrick: Of course That’s what I mean. Hagen also plans to spend the first day of his retirement at another party hosted by the church he delivers.
