Winstead-based American Mural Project has announced that Dana Knox Gower is its new director of marketing and communications.
Knox-Gower leads AMP’s brand-building initiatives and strategic marketing campaigns, helping to reinforce the organization’s mission and purpose to local, regional and national audiences. She will make a significant contribution to the growth and evolution of AMP’s multifaceted programs and community events by increasing sustainable revenue streams, fostering partnership engagement and enhancing the visitor experience.
She joined AMP after 16 years in marketing, communications and public relations management for Smiths Detection, an internationally recognized security technology leader. Prior to Smiths Detection, Knox-Gower worked in various marketing her communications and sales functions for her trade shows, publishing, and media organizations.
AMP is home to the world’s largest indoor collaboration, a 120-foot-long, five-story high three-dimensional mural. More than 15,000 children and adults helped create a mural in his one of two factory buildings on the AMP campus on Whiting Street in Winstead.

Pakouta becomes president
Valley United Way’s Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Michael E. Pacowta as President and Chief Professional Officer.
Pakouta, who first joined as Area Director in August 2022, brings a wealth of experience to the organization’s five towns of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton. He succeeds interim president and CEO David Kennedy, who retired on January 9.
“The Board is excited to have Mike lead VUW. He will focus on building fundraising momentum to strengthen the influence of our partner institutions within the community.”
She added that the board is grateful for Kennedy’s leadership and guidance over the past three years, especially during the pandemic. We worked hard to raise funds as part of the Community COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund,” said Stockla.
Pacowta has had a long presence in the Valley, serving as President of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce from 1991-1994 and Mayor of Shelton from 1985-1991.
He also served as Chairman of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce for several years and held the position of Employment Specialist at TheWorkplace, Inc. just prior to joining VUW.
Job Fair at the Marriott Waterbury Downtown
The Waterbury Regional Chamber and the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board will host a job fair on Wednesday in downtown Waterbury with over 60 regional businesses attending.
The event takes place at the Courtyard by Marriott Waterbury Downtown, 63 Grand Street from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the hotel garage. WATR Radio 1320AM/97.7 FM will be broadcasting live from the event.
