Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Sailors and businesses in the area are now expressing continued frustration with a malfunctioning New River bridge that caused major train trouble for Brightline passengers on Thursday.
Built in 1978, the New River drawbridge in downtown Fort Lauderdale is malfunctioning for reasons that have yet to be determined.
Local 10 News cameras spotted signs next to the bridge reading “Waterway Closed” and “Bridge Lowered for Repairs.”
Service on Thursday’s Brightline service began within hours, but many, like Water Taxi General Manager Greg Farley, said the delay was a nightmare for his business.
“The impact on our business has been logistics. We have 13 ships sailing daily to serve the Fort Lauderdale area,” said Farley. “It was difficult having to find a dock away from our home base last night. We had two weddings of over 100 people.”

Visitors planning to bring boats into the area should expect delays.
