The Army is putting the finishing touches on new ribbons that will be awarded to soldiers who help convince someone to join the military, three sources with direct knowledge of the plan told Military.com.

However, the message, delivered in February and repeated over most of the past year, did not appear to meaningfully address the Army’s recruiting problem.
Recruitment issues are a compilation of issues, including some that are largely outside the Army’s control. In large part, the obesity crisis and poor academic performance of young Americans disqualify them from military service. A senior military leader told Military.com that some of the problems simply stem from a pseudo-peacetime with no war to spur US military action.
Army planners are trying everything from rapidly expanding basic pre-training courses for recruits who are slightly overweight or who fail the SAT-style entrance exam to qualify for enlistment. . The Army has also implemented some new recruitment incentives. Most notably, allowing recruits to choose their first place of service within limits.
