Polk County, Florida — We hear a lot about bath bombs, but what about broth bombs?
It’s the same concept. Instead of whipping up a tub, whip up a stew with healthy, delicious herbs and spices.
Founder Andrew Laurent is recovering from a stroke and raising a six-year-old daughter, so he’s looking for quick, affordable, healthy meals when it comes to dinner.
“I just put everything in one pot, cooked it, tried different spices, and started thinking about what I could do. Along the way, I came up with some great recipes,” Laurent said.
Combining herbs and spices in one bomb was a revolutionary step, but my daughter Frances was still unimpressed.
That’s when Andrew added the baking powder and, like magic, it started bubbling into the stew.
“It’s like bringing a kid into the kitchen and saying, ‘Let’s see what we’re going to do.’ They get excited about cooking with it and get involved in the process. For example, they say Laurent: “This is a great trick for parents trying to cook more beans and vegetables for a family that can be fussy.”
“If you drop it straight, it will bubble as soon as you drop it,” says Frances.
But Laurent learned from his friends that he doesn’t have to be six to be tricked into eating vegetables.
Jennifer Clinton said, “My son had beans for the first time. He’s 20 and has never had beans, but he loved them.
Laurent realized he might have more than family recipes. He may have a family business.
“Eventually, after spending hours in restaurants, we found a restaurant that we could go and make,” Laurent said.
So far, he has developed 14 Broth Bombs. Each has a name and mascot that appeals to all ages and palates.
“When you get these sets, it’s like a little cookbook,” says Laurent. “People go buy him a pack of 8 or he a 14. It’s like buying a recipe book, because next month or he has two months’ worth of recipes.”
To date, we have sold and counted over one million servings.
