But despite the weather, he and his staff were busy clearing the ground for skiers.

Now that we have been able to compete on these grounds, we can give our athletes the confidence to compete at the regional or national level.”

Miles Brown was taking a break under a heavy gray sky. The snow was fringed with patches of brown and green ground.
“You can’t ski without this facility,” said a member of the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Nordic Ski Team. “We’ll be back to roller skiing or running soon. It’s so nice to be able to go in between really big races and finish nationals and be able to do this.”
For the Minnesota native, the approach of snow was part of the decision process when choosing a school.
“Having a school with snow nearby as opposed to going to a school in the East where there is less snow and no snow-making facilities nearby was not a big part of the decision, but it was definitely a consideration. he said.

Becker says it snows in the center on good nights. They are working to expand the amount of open trails while filling in areas that need restoration.
“It really makes me smile when people say, ‘I went skiing and it snowed after driving six hours,'” he said.
