The new statewide program predicts that six community projects in rural Nevada will tap into the emerging mixed travel market and convention delegates will welcome a break from the bright lights of the Strip.

The Nevada Tourism Authority is launching a 10-year plan to attract convention and conference visitors to other parts of the state away from Las Vegas.
Travel Nevada’s 3D program has identified several projects that have received consulting services for at least seven months and are eligible for $2 million in funding provided by the US Economic Development Agency as part of the US Relief Plans Act.
Project leaders believe there is room to take advantage of a mixed traveler mix as more employees add time off to conventions and business meetings as they adopt telecommuting.
“Many business travelers are not looking for a gambling experience,” said Courtney Bloomer, Destination Development Manager at Travel Nevada.
“With so many hybrid work and work-from-home schedules, many business travelers are looking for places where they can work for a period of time where they can bring their families and have an apartment at an Airbnb or meeting location. Their needs. Many people enjoy outdoor recreation, so our rural communities can provide such vacations,” she added.
long term thinking
There are 6 related projects. Black Rock; Lincoln County; Indian Territory of Nevada (to strengthen cultural awareness and identity); Boulder City; and Carson City, Carson Valley, and Virginia City (together).
Each is led by a local steering committee representing local business and community stakeholders interested in promoting tourism. He will also work with Better Destinations consultancy to finalize his 10-year plan to increase tourist attraction and expand the economy through tourism.
The emphasis is on outdoor recreation, nature, culture and arts throughout.
This program is a world apart from previous projects in the region. For example, MGM Resorts marketed its hotel rooms as offices during the Covid-19 pandemic. This initiative was short-lived. Even between emergency orders and his Covid enforcement draconian, Las Vegas later emerged as he’s the top business travel destination in the US in 2021.
It remains a corporate hotspot in 2022, with 2 million people attending meetings and events from January to May.
So it’s no surprise that urban freaks want to redirect some of these travelers in their direction.
“A lot of our rural destinations actually have a lot of what business travelers are looking for,” added Blumer. If you’re coming to Las Vegas on a business-type trip, Lincoln County has some of the best mountain biking trails in easy reach.”
The program also trains Las Vegas concierges and other hospitality workers to become “Battleboard Insiders” who promote their destinations.
resilient destination
Bloomer downplayed the risk of some sites being overwhelmed by tourists. Because the program puts local businesses and communities at the center and addresses capacity and infrastructure issues.
Bloomer said site visits will be conducted over the next few months to conduct analysis on visitor and visitor segmentation to identify gaps in amenities.
“At the same time, we’re doing a lot of capacity building and education things with them that can make them resilient and vibrant destinations,” she added.
