Astana. KAZINFORM Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov held the fifth meeting of the National Entrepreneurs Council to discuss topical issues concerning the development of the country’s mining sector.
The mining sector accounts for 8.5% of the country’s GDP, according to newly appointed Minister of Industrial Infrastructure Development Marat Karabayev. Last year, 19 new investment projects worth 232 billion tenge were implemented. In general, the country’s output in this sector he reached 11.4 trillion tenge, an increase of 17%. Fixed investment he exceeded 1 trillion tenge (+14.8%).
To make the sector more competitive, the ministry will take measures such as displacing mineral reserves, simplifying and automating business processes on a single platform for subsoil users, and deepening the processing of metals.
Alikhan Smailov emphasized that the government’s measures and the business community’s constructive proposals for the development of the country’s mining sector are included in the sectoral concept for the next five years.
The conference also discussed the issues of further development of the geological sector and subsoil use, increasing the investment attractiveness of the mining sector, taxation, digitalization and the implementation of new environmental requirements.
The prime minister recalled the government’s decision to exempt mineral extraction tax for up to five years for projects that start commercial production after December 31, 2022.
