BELOIT, Wisconsin — A multiple vehicle collision at 1-39/90 has blocked traffic in both directions, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
State patrols reported a crash near Milepost 181 between Beloit and Janesville in Rock County around 12:31 p.m. Friday.
A KB towing and recovery officer told Spectrum News 1 that 70 cars and four semi-trucks were involved in the crash.
The troopers find the interstate blocked in both directions when they arrive.
For the time being, southbound traffic will be diverted on Avalon Road and northbound traffic will be diverted on Chopierre Road.
The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted drivers involved in the accident, investigated the accident, and urged drivers to avoid the area while they cleared the driveway. starting. All five trucks are helping, they said, and nearly every tow truck in the city is helping cleanup efforts.
Officials said the incident occurred during a “severe winter weather event” that resulted in snow, ice and whiteout conditions. They said it was believed to have contributed to the initial crash.

At least one person has been reported injured in the clash.
Janesville’s SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital has been put on standby for the incident, according to SSM officials. They said they have accepted two non-traumatic patients so far and will accept more if needed.
