MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis City Council has approved a new mobile parking app contract that is expected to go into effect in March of this year.
On Monday, January 9, the Policy and Government Oversight Board approved a three-year, $5 million contract with Flowbird. This replaces an existing app currently offered by another provider. The city will continue to use the trademarked “Mpls Parking” brand.
Minneapolis’ current contract with its mobile parking app provider ends in March 2023, according to city documents.
“The toll booths for the city’s metered parking lots are also provided by Flowbird, along with a robust management system,” the committee wrote in a memo ahead of the vote. “By integrating both paystation and mobile app transactions into a unified management system, the management of the entire system becomes more efficient.”
About 65% of parking fees were made through parking apps last year, with nearly 3.7 million transactions, according to the city.
