Milwaukee police shoot at Betts Place Central, man dies

milwaukee – Milwaukee police shot dead a 66-year-old man at a veterans home on Tuesday morning, December 20.

Police said they summoned the active shooter around 7:30 a.m. at Betts Place Central and Wells near No. 34.

Jason Johnson of the Center for Veterans Affairs, the organization that runs Vets Place Central, said: “This is a tragic event. ” he said.

Police said the 66-year-old man was in the basement of the facility with other residents and pointed his gun at the two officers who were the first to enter. One of his two police officers shot and killed his 66-year-old man. No one else was hurt.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said, “There are reports of multiple people in close proximity to the person who fired the gun.”

Police closed the block surrounding the facility for hours while investigators tried to piece together what happened. Norman said a bomb squad was on standby in case explosives were found.

A veteran, Johns is an attorney at the Center for Veterans Affairs. He said he wouldn’t go into details about the 66-year-old’s background or how the situation began. It’s time for the Center for Veterans Affairs.

“We are all brothers. We all went into battle together. And we at CVI are family,” Johns said.

The Center for Veterans Affairs said Veterans Administration grief counselors are available to support residents and employees of Betts Place Central.

The officer who shot the man is 38 years old and has been with the police department for nearly 20 years, MPD said. He has a managerial position, which is his day job. He was a 40-year-old second officer who served more than 13 years, but did not fire.

The incident will be investigated by the Milwaukee Regional Investigation Team, led by the Oak Creek Police Department.
