Milwaukee police responded to reports of shootings at a home near 87th Street and Hemlock on Monday, November 21, according to the criminal complaint. Inside, they found her 44-year-old woman with a fatal gunshot wound.
While at the scene, police spoke with the 10-year-old boy and said he was woken by a woman (the boy’s mother) at 6am. Going to the basement where she was grabbing her laundry, he said he first spun the gun with his finger and then “accidentally detonated it.”

Given her age, the 10-year-old girl was “allowed to stay with her family,” the complaint says. However, the next day her family contacted the police with serious concerns. Police were told that a 10-year-old boy “had an ‘anger problem’ throughout his life. He acted out very angry,” the complaint says.
In a subsequent interview with police, the 10-year-old “admitted he was not brandishing a gun when he shot his mother,” the complaint states. The 10-year-old went on to tell police, “He admitted that his mother didn’t allow him to get what he wanted from Amazon. The complaint also told her for waking him up at 6 a.m. “He tried to shoot her at the wall to ‘scare her’ but immediately shot her in the face.” I acknowledged that,” he said. The boy “admitted that he knew guns were dangerous and could kill,” the complaint reads.
Police said the boy logged into his mother’s Amazon account on November 22 and ordered the virtual reality headset he wanted after his mother’s death.
Police found a black semi-automatic 9mm Glock 43 handgun in a residence. Officials pointed out that the fired cartridges were under the basement stairs.
The 10-year-old first appeared in Milwaukee County Court on Friday, November 25, when the criminal complaint was filed. His cash bond was set at his $50,000. The 10-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7 at Milwaukee’s Youth and Family Justice Center.
