milwaukee – Two Milwaukee men were killed in shootings near the Fond du Lac and Capitol early on Friday, July 22.
Police said someone opened fire on the two men around 12:45 a.m.
At a members-only barber shop on Milwaukee’s north side, clippers buzzed in conversation. Andre Robertson lined up his customers and reflected on what happened a few doors away.

“It hurts. It hurts to see,” said Robertson. It hurts me to know that someone may have died in front of your business.
Milwaukee has 131 deaths so far in 2022, up more than 42% from the same period last year, according to police data. The people inside the barber shop take it seriously.

“This is an opportunity for us to talk to them and try to point them in the right direction,” Robertson said.
Robertson knows pain firsthand. His son was killed in 2012.
“My message has always been trust in God,” he said.

As violence in the city increases, people want it to stop.
“We have to come together. We have to do better. We say we want change, but it starts with us,” said resident Carlos Turner. “We keep moving forward. We come here every day to get better.”
