Milwaukee — A longtime city employee gave his life to the city of Milwaukee
“The Shop” is where the Milwaukee Fire Department fire trucks and other vehicles are repaired. In the Milwaukee community he has been around for over 90 years.
And it’s always full of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency response vehicles. A lot happens in the shop, but that’s what Dean his Schumacher has been doing for his 30+ years.
In total, he has been with the City of Milwaukee for 35 years, with the last 26 years as a mechanic at the Milwaukee Fire Department.
“I feel like I started about a month ago. I don’t know where the time has gone,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher is a firefighter who goes outside to deal with the problems that arise in the city’s fire department.
“Every day we go to six or eight fire stations and fix different things,” Schumacher said.
Having worked for quite some time, he has a knack for finding solutions to many problems that arise.
“I like to fix things. has always been kind to me and treats me well,” said Schumacher.
For Deputy Head of Construction and Maintenance Skyler Bellot, having someone like Schumacher on the team is very important and very valuable.
“It’s great to have a guy like that.” We’re letting him go so he can track down those little issues and figure them out before they make that rig unusable. I’ll check what.”
But Schumacher’s time in the division is coming to an end soon. He retired at the end of his February and said he would miss people and of course his job.
“It’s just fixing things. It’s fun. I’m doing some things at home, I’m working on the car at home too. Just fixing problems, fixing problems,” said Schumacher. rice field.
The last few months of work have been bittersweet for him, but he is preparing to leave behind a career that has become such a big part of his life over the last few years.
His plans for retirement, he said, are to spend more time with his grandchildren.
