Milwaukee — February is Black History Month and Milwaukee Films is gearing up for its fifth annual Black History Month program.
Milwaukee Film’s Black Lens program is a month-long series of film screenings and live events that shine a spotlight on Black culture, history and experiences.
 
Here’s what Milwaukee Films has in store for this year’s celebration.

February 2nd at 7pm
A new alderman from Evanston, Illinois, led the passage of the first black slavery compensation bill in U.S. history.
“Last Dragon”
February 4th at 7pm
A young man seeks a “master” and obtains the final stage of martial arts master “Kagayaki”. Along the way, he must battle an evil martial arts expert and rescue a beautiful singer from an obsessed music promoter.
“Desperate Africans”
February 9 at 7:00 PM
Twenty-four hours after a woman graduates from art school, she embarks on a whimsical journey from upstate New York to Chicago.
“Black Love Through a Black Lens”
February 11th at noon
Celebrate black love in all its facets with short film screenings on Valentine’s Day weekend.

February 16, 7:00 p.m.
A new documentary focusing on Reverend Al Sharpton’s 30-year career as an activist.
“Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom”
February 18th at noon
An unscripted documentary that takes viewers into Juneteenth’s story through the eyes of a black person who learns about Juneteenth from the direct descendants of those who were emancipated.
“Fire Music”
February 23, 7:00 p.m.
This documentary explores and celebrates the free jazz movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

February 25th at noon
After tackling a date with a beautiful woman, the young artist embarks on an ultra-stylized journey into the heart of the moment.
