Milwaukee — Recovery and planning for the future will be a big focus for tourism in Milwaukee in 2023.
Visit Milwaukee president and CEO Peggy Williams-Smith says 2022 will see a significant recovery in travel within the city.
In 2023, she expects things to get pretty close to normal.
Williams-Smith said a strong 2022 means a lot for the city’s hospitality industry.
“To open the door and fill the hotel and allow people coming and going to hit our restaurants, our shops and all our attractions so that we can talk briefly about tourism and what it does. We have our economy,” she said.
Now, Williams Smith and Visit Milwaukee staff are looking ahead to 2023 and beyond. Milwaukee will host several events over the next two years that will put Milwaukee on the national and international stage.
Perhaps the most notable will be the Republican National Convention in July 2024. In addition to focusing on the logistical details of planning the convention, Williams-Smith said it was important to share Milwaukee’s story.
“I think we have a lot of opportunities to showcase Milwaukee in the best possible light for the 2024 convention. Instead, we tell the stories of the people of Milwaukee,” said Williams-Smith.
The 120th anniversary of Harley-Davidson, the continued growth of the cruise industry, and Summerfest will all provide additional opportunities to raise Milwaukee’s national profile in 2023.
Visit Milwaukee is also capitalizing on recent positive press as they focus their marketing efforts on 2023.
National Geographic named the city one of the top 25 travel destinations. This is what Visit Milwaukee is talking about.
“My team was so excited when we learned that there were even whispers that this could happen in Milwaukee. It’s the holy grail of PR communication.”
Visit Milwaukee has kicked off its 2023 marketing efforts in a big way. They put up signs in New York’s Times Square during the New Year celebrations, touting Milwaukee as a must-see destination.na
