In the squeak of overtime, the 49ers gave “drama” a new name. The Las Vegas Raiders appeared to have a copy of the 49ers playbook as they ended in a tie 34-34. The 49ers put it all together, and the Raiders’ gutsy offense combined with a stellar defense put them against San Francisco, and it was arguably the game of the month.
If you take it into consideration when planning your schedule, just think about it. No excuses. Make an observation or two about this game. 1) Set to New Year’s Day. 2) The setting was in Las Vegas, the fun capital of the West, home of the Raiders. 3) The 49ers were expected to win by a wide margin. 4) The 49ers may have celebrated New Year’s Eve… just a little bit. 5) Do you think all the 49ers were home in bed by midnight and had a good night’s sleep?
Speculation and prejudice, of course. But if you want to take your serious competitors by surprise, this is the place, time and match.
Reliable Mr. Robbie Gould would have won the game for the 49ers with a rare missed field goal in the final seconds of regulation. Instead, the game remained a draw and went into extra time.
bad news? The Raiders won the coin toss, giving the touchdown the first shot of the game-winning scoring. Good news then? In a 49ers coincidence, an errant pass by Raiders quarterback Jarrett Stidham was picked up by 49ers safety Tashawn Gibson, giving possession to the 49ers.
This time, “Old Reliable” Robbie Gould was called upon to attempt another field goal. This time, the 49ers won overtime 37-34 with no mistakes, making it a nine-game winning streak.
To the big game!!!
