It looks like Microsoft is adding tabs to Windows 11’s Notepad app.(opens in new window) Windows Central.
The screenshot appeared in a soon-deleted tweet mistakenly posted by a Microsoft employee that allegedly read, “Windows 11 Notepad now has tabs!” XDA-Developer Report(opens in new window).
According to WindowsCentral, the screenshot showing the version of Notepad had a warning at the top that said, “Don’t talk about features or take screenshots.” The rule was clearly not fully followed.
Tabs reportedly appear along the top of the app, allowing users to open multiple .txt files in the same window.

Microsoft added tabs to File Explorer in Windows 11 earlier this year. In addition to allowing users to work with multiple tabs in her single window, the update included a “recommended actions” feature. According to Microsoft, it’s designed to anticipate your needs and shows you actions you can take with a click of your mouse.

It’s not yet clear when Microsoft will officially roll out the new Notepad app, but WindowsCentral said it will likely be announced in preview “in the coming weeks” at Windows Insider, the company’s open software testing program.
