Microsoft announced it is introducing a new low-cost subscription tier to its Microsoft 365 product bundles.
Called Microsoft 365 Basic, this new tier is priced at $1.99/month or $19.99/year and will be available globally on January 30th. Users will initially have access to 100 GB of cloud storage, ad-free Outlook web and mobile. Enhanced security features such as ransomware recovery and OneDrive password-protected shared links will be rolling out in the coming months.
Microsoft is currently offering customers a OneDrive 100GB standalone plan. Microsoft 365 Basic is designed to replace this plan, and all existing standalone subscribers will automatically upgrade to the new Basic tier for the same $1.99/month.
However, unlike the $6.99 Personal subscription that Microsoft also offers, the new Basic plan doesn’t include access to desktop versions of the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps, and Basic tier subscribers will instead get You should use the web or mobile version.
