Microsoft warned about yet another known issue with Windows 11. This issue, which affects operating system version 22H2, means that users may experience problems launching certain apps after performing a system restore.
The company says the bug caused problems for all applications that use the MSIX Windows app package format, acknowledging that various proprietary titles are affected, including Office and Terminal.

In a newly posted support document titled KB5023152, launching a Windows app on Windows 11 version 22H2 results in the error message “This app can’t be opened”, the company states:
After performing a System Restore to a previous restore point on a device running Windows 11 version 22H2, some Windows applications that use the MSIX Windows App Package format may experience one of the following symptoms: I have.
- The app doesn’t start and I get the error message “This app can’t be opened”.
- of the app[スタート]A menu may have multiple entries.
- When trying to launch the app, the app may not respond.
- Sometimes I/O errors occur, the app becomes unresponsive, and the app crashes.
- When I try to launch the app again, it should now run.
The company warns that there may be other symptoms besides those listed.
Microsoft has shared details of some potential workarounds.
- Try restarting the app.
- Try reinstalling the app from the Windows Store.
- Try reinstalling the app from the original source you originally installed it from.
- Try running Windows Update.
Interestingly, the company did not say it was looking into the issue, as it usually does, nor indicated if it was working on a fix.
