Mass Appeal has announced another part of its #HipHop50 initiative, which aims to celebrate hip-hop’s pivotal 50th anniversary this year. Entertainment companies have partnered with Sony Music Entertainment to showcase artists for their labels and digital catalog programs.
According to a press release, Sony and Mass Appeal will shine a light on the talents of SMEs through original content, experiences and merchandise that are part of Mass Appeal’s campaign for hip-hop’s milestone anniversary. The new Fotografiska New York exhibition “Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious” will be launched exclusively on January 25th.
With more than 200 photos, Fotografiska describes the rise of hip hop through 50 years of work by the pioneering image makers who helped codify it as one of the most influential pop culture movements of its generation. and adoption,” said the press release. The public is open from January 26th to may 21th.
Mass Appeal and Sony are also working on a content series titled Made By Hip Hop, which is set to debut later this year. In this series, small business artists discuss various topics across the hip-hop genre, including the history of hip-hop and its overall impact on pop culture.
Details of the #HipHop50 collaboration between the two companies will be announced in the coming months.
The announcement from Mass Appeal is the latest in the company’s mission to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.They have previously announced a DJ premier-Produced soundtracks, partnered with Live Nation to produce live event programming honoring the voices that helped shape hip hop, and forged premium content partnerships with Paramount+/Showtime.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Universal Hip-Hop Museum, which will open in 2024, and other charities.
