2022 was a pivotal year for travel marketing, and perhaps a year to go down in history.
Over the past two years, the tourism industry has been at a standstill and few people were allowed to cross the border, leaving little reason to spend scarce funds on advertising.
Getting back on my feet wasn’t easy either. Airlines, hotels, and the industry as a whole have faced staff shortages, flight shortages and a global cost of living crisis that affects prices on almost everything.
Faced with these challenges, the marketing team implemented creative campaigns that capitalized on pent-up wanderlust.

1. Liv’s Favorites: Iceland’s ‘Ride Your Inbox’
As a self-confessed phone addict and mass emailer, going offline on vacation is no easy task. And Iceland understands it. With the line, “Nothing ruins a vacation like work,” this campaign spoke directly to me. The suggestion to hire a horse to answer your emails is a clever way to grab the audience’s attention while showing them all of Iceland’s unique sights because ‘no one can tell the difference’. It made me want to log off and take a one-way flight to Iceland.
