Another downtown eatery has closed.
Luna Rosa Gelato Cafe announced on January 2 that it would close after 15 years in business.
The Ortiz family, who own the restaurant, made the announcement on social media.
“Luna Rosa Familia, we’ve been through it all with you,” the family said in the post. We’ve celebrated, and we’ve weathered storms, disease, power outages, and other uncertainties with you, but I can only say from the bottom of my heart that our journey is over. Closing the doors of a restaurant that has taken more than half a year to build is devastating, but please know that the family we built with you lives on. Today we say ‘goodbye’ to the restaurant and we can only say ‘thank you for everything and hope to see you again’. “
The eatery also has a second location at 306 N. Main St. No word yet on whether the Mauldin location will close or remain open.
The closure comes in the spring of 2020 after COVID-19 lockdowns and reduced traffic caused sales to plummet and the restaurant struggled to stay open.

The family was able to keep Luna Rosa open thanks in part to nearly $25,000 raised through a GoFundMe drive.
This is a developing story.
