Two of New Mexico’s most famous public relations and marketing firms are now one.
Sunny505, a New Mexico powerhouse with clients ranging from local governments to out-of-state companies such as Avangrid, announced Thursday the acquisition of New Mexico-based Marketing Solutions.
The acquisition of Sunny505 makes Sunny505 one of the largest, if not the largest, public relations company operating in New Mexico. According to Joanie Griffin, her CEO of Sunny505, the acquisition officially closed on her January 1st.
Griffin declined to disclose the purchase price of Marketing Solutions.

With this acquisition, Sunny505 now has 20 employees and 5 Marketing Solutions employees have moved into the company. Among them is former Marketing Solutions CEO Laura Smigielski Garcia, who is now Senior Strategist at Sunny505.
The two companies have long been important players in marketing and public relations in New Mexico, and both have been in operation for over 30 years.
Founded in 1990 and formerly known as Griffin & Associates, Sunny505 merged with Santa Fe-based HK Advertising in 2019 and changed its name to Sunny505.
Marketing Solutions has been around around the same time, Griffin said, serving clients such as the New Mexico Department of Transportation, New Mexico Beef Council, Delta Dental and Century Bank. She added that these clients are now part of Sunny505’s portfolio of clients. This includes the Albuquerque Regional Economic Union, the Molina Cares Accord, the New Mexico Angels, and a list of other powerful companies, organizations and local governments.
Griffin said the acquisition would strengthen Sunny505’s position in the state, adding that he hopes “the business remains in New Mexico.”
Smigerski Garcia agrees.
