Caledonia, Wisconsin — As the holiday season came to an end, some Wisconsiners delivered their Christmas trees to Crimson Acres Family Farm and fed the goats.
Jennifer Linehan owns a farm with her husband. They took over the farm a year and a half before her and wanted to find innovative ways to care for the animals.
According to Linehan, the idea of giving goats Christmas trees came from her husband’s discovery that goats actually like to munch on goats.
“There are actually some vitamins you can get from that,” Linehan said. I need to make up for it.”
From local retailers to residents, the Crimson Acres Family Farm quickly received dozens of Christmas trees.
“The piled trees are probably about five feet tall, and they’re just piled up to make sure the goats can digest them,” Linehan said.
Linehan believes it takes a goat months to prune a tree. As she collects the goats, she said she knows they appreciate the extra food.
“Our goats are pretty spoiled with it,” she said. process.”
Linehan said getting a Christmas tree is more than just feeding the goats.
“In the spring we burn the branches and light the barn fire for the family to have fun and talk about all our experiences because for children, learning about farming enriches their lives immensely.” ‘ said Linehan.
While the goats are eating, Linehan is happy to help the community get rid of the Christmas tree quickly while helping the animals on the farm.
Crimson acres family farm also sponsors a program called LUV-A-CHIC.
This gives the family the opportunity to raise chicks for a few weeks before spending the rest of their lives on the farm.
“Besides learning the basic skills of caring for animals, making sure they have food and water, the time spent watching animals grow and raising chickens. Thank you for all the effort you put in. Then give me the eggs you consume,” Linehan said.
