Bowling Green, Kentucky (WBKO) – Warming stations have been vital to the survival of those living without heat or even homes since late December 22nd.
Alchemy Arts owner LeMegan Shelton said:
Alchemy Arts and Clean Line Tattoos are among the local businesses that have provided the new space by the bypass as a warm shelter for the townspeople.
“Many of our homeless population feel like they don’t always feel comfortable in shelters. It’s an alternative space. It’s a safe space. We have some work to do. We felt it was the right thing to do,” Shelton said.
Shelton says their shop is multi-faceted and will offer more services than just tattoos and body piercings. Shelton wants it to be a calm, focused place where everyone is welcome with donuts, coffee and warm clothes if needed.
“This doesn’t have to be a rock star environment. You have to evolve,” says John Nichols, owner of Clean Line Tattoo.
The owner said one man who stopped by after walking in the freezing cold was able to get new warm, dry socks and was as sweet as can be.
“It’s been a really good day,” Shelton said.
The owner knew it was the right thing to do, especially as a new business just starting up in town.
“Tattoo and body piercing shops are places for certain people to feel at home, but not a therapist’s office or a shelter or a clinic. I feel like I can brew a cup of coffee, kick my feet, feel comfortable and warm, and spend time with people.
On Christmas Eve, we plan to continue operating as a shelter to keep you warm.
Other locations in Warren County that offer warm shelter to the public include Salvation Army, Room at the Inn, Tru by Hilton, Kumar Little Recreation Center, and Hyatt Place.
