Tulsa, Oklahoma — Every year there are new resolutions — and one of the most popular is to cut back on alcohol, or stop drinking for a month.
Nothing’s Left Brewery in Tulsa is trying to help non-drinkers by having a “driver” every Monday. The event is called “NADA”, which stands for Not A Drop of Alcohol.
At NADA, customers can find handcrafted mocktails, terpene-infused tonics, and draft beers all alcohol-free.
“We actually have a big non-alcoholic community here in Tulsa, and nobody talks about it,” says Lacey Richards, co-owner of Nothing’s Left. “In January, a lot of people try to be sober for a month, and that’s a big lifestyle we want to support.”
There’s Dry Russian, a mocktail of White Russian, mojito-inspired ‘Nohito’, non-alcoholic beer and wine, and terpene-infused tonics. Terp tonics are also brewed at Nothing’s Left, but the terpenes themselves are extracted from locally owned bison extract.
“I think one of the reasons we looked for Nothing’s Left is because they’re known for brewing weird beers and having very inventive flavor profiles,” says Bison Extracts co-founder. Brandee Spillman says.
Bison Extracts’ beverage line, Social Bison, uses terpenes derived from cannabis. Terpenes help people relax, but unlike alcohol, they don’t impair cognitive performance.
“We really like pairing good terpenes with specific flavor profiles that enhance them,” says Spillman.
Tonics include lavender and lemon, blackberry vanilla, pomegranate cranberry and basil.
“Grapes and cream were the terpene strains of cannabis we extracted, so she paired it with blackberry vanilla. It’s so smooth.”
Spillman says the project and non-alcoholic options are important to her.
“Personally, this project meant a lot to me because I haven’t had a drink in four and a half years.”
Spillman and Richards say this is a chance for people who have been sober for a month or so to enjoy the brewery atmosphere without being tempted. Nothing’s Left has his dry bar every Monday throughout January.Open from 3pm to 9pm
