NORTH ROYALTON, OH – A family of local business owners who own convenience stores, gas stations, hotels and small restaurants have acquired the former Carrie Serino’s Italian restaurant on Ridge Road.
The family, who purchased Carrie Serino’s property on December 9 for $500,000 under the company name MAHA Laxmi 8922 Inc., owns and operates a party center there and leases restaurant space to restaurateurs. It’s a schedule.
Pratik Patel, president of MAHA Laxmi 8922, said the party hall will be called “Royalton Palace.” They hope to open in spring 2023.
“My family is Indian and it’s hard to find a party hall in our community,” Patel, 33, told cleveland.com. “This makes it easy for us to host events. It’s right next to our temple (Greater Cleveland Shiva Vishnu Temple).”
“But party centers aren’t just for the Indian community,” says Patel. “It’s for everyone.”
Patel said he and his family have yet to sign a restaurant for the building.
“But people are used to Italian restaurants there, so Italian would be nice,” said Patel.
Patel and his family have hired an architect to help renovate the building to city standards, he said.
Tom Jordan, the city’s community development coordinator, told cleveland.com:
MAHA Laxmi consists of about 10 Patel family members. There are locally owned and operated businesses such as Wayback Burgers in Broadview Heights, Whitney Beverage & Deli in Strongsville, and his M&J Beverage & Deli in Parma. In Broadview Heights he owns two He Deli-4-Less businesses.
The Patels also have businesses in Kent, Grafton, Macedonia, and other communities in northeastern Ohio.
MAHA Laxmi purchased Carrie Cerino’s property from Marc Glassman, founder and owner of Marc’s Deeper Discount Stores. Jordan said Glassman intended to keep the building as his center for restaurants and events, but his plans fell through.
In addition to paying $500,000 for the land and building, Patels spent an additional $325,000 on equipment within the former restaurant for a total of $825,000.
Cary Serino’s, located on the ridge between Sprague Road and Albion Road, closed abruptly in February 2020. The restaurant originally opened in 1963 and stands on a 13-acre lot.
