Loans worth INR 250 crore were provided in one day to street vendors, small entrepreneurs and ranchers in a credit outreach program held here on Sunday.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla handed over the checks to some of the beneficiaries.
Officials said the others would receive their loan amounts later in the day.
Loans were provided under schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana, Mudra Yojana and Pashupalak Kisan credit cards.
Addressing the event here at the Dashera Ground, Sitharaman said the prime minister himself has guaranteed the loan under Pradhan Mantri Svanidi Yojana, so there is no need to prepare documents for the guarantee.
At least Rs 680 crore in loans will be distributed to cattle breeders (Pashpalak), she added.
Many others have credit approvals for various business and agricultural purposes, she said.
The Finance Minister also encouraged women to form Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in their respective regions and use bank loans to develop storage and processing units in their villages.
Lok Sabha Chair Om Birla, who is also a Kota-Bundi parliamentarian, has called on street vendors, small-scale entrepreneurs and pastoralists to expand their business using loans under various government schemes.
“The driving force of our country is India’s poorest people. In the future, India will lead economic growth. It will be driven by street vendors, women and cattle breeders,” Birla added. We want to build a new economic structure (Arsic Tantra) and make the poorest the strongest. “
