Boutonnieres and corsages, children can sometimes be seen dressing up a bit for their mother’s or father’s vows.
Feeling? The former major league first baseman (and Hartford resident) once asked Doug Glanville what he and the opposing team’s baserunners were talking about between pitches.
“Well, they got there first, so they’re usually in a good mood,” he replied.
So this is the day. Everyone there won the election. They all made it first.
This year, Governor Ned Lamont used the same word twice. One was used in a short inaugural address and another in his longer “State of the State” address.
He attributed it to John Lennon, “Life is what happens while you’re making other plans.”
It appears in a Lennon song (more on that later), but is at least 23 years old and is attributed in 1957 to a comic strip creator named Allen Saunders. I can’t find it in the strip, but it seems like something Mary Worth, one of his characters, said.
Lamont used this quote to describe his conflict with COVID-19.
But the way Lennon used it is more painfully universal. It’s in his song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” about his son Sean.
set sail out on the sea
i can hardly wait
to see you grow up
But I think we have no choice but to endure each other
It’s a long way to go
Hard line to hoe
yes, it’s a long way
but in the meantime
before crossing the street
take my hand
Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans
There are so many that it is heartbreaking. I am aware of the danger. “When you cross the street…” and a hunch of time. “I can’t wait to see you grow up.”
When the album Double Fantasy, which contained the song, was newly released in 1980, a young man asked him for his autograph. A few hours later, the same young man shot and killed John Lennon on the streets of New York. Lennon was 40 years old.
The music of the inauguration party was still in the air, but just after midnight, State Representative Quentin Williams, newly sworn in for a third term, died in a highway 9 car crash on his way home. he was 39 years old.
And suddenly the good mood was replaced by its opposite.
Williams appears to have died in a “reverse collision”. These occur when the driver uses what is supposed to be an exit to enter the highway. State police and physicists would say it’s deadly because two moving objects collide head-on.
In 2022, the state saw a spike in this particular type of accident. Connecticut’s record for wrong-way accidents was broken in his first six months.
The change was so sudden and dramatic that it could hardly be called a signage or infrastructure issue. The stress of the pandemic leaked onto the roads and forced people to think they were neglecting their care and drinking more.
One of the obstacles to studying wrong-way driving accidents is that drivers are rarely interviewed after an accident.

The last thing I knew Monday night was the collapse of NFL player Damar Hamlin on the field. He had his CPR for minutes before heading to the hospital and fell into a medically induced coma. Both teams stopped the match. They don’t usually do that.
That night I had horrible dreams of violence and harm. I remember pushing aside the long, heavy curtain and realizing I was covered in blood.
Earlier in the day, I did one of my occasional radio shows. Callers are encouraged to listen and teach anything. A young New Haven woman named Iman called and asked what I would say to disembodied souls not yet assigned a life. Would you tell me to ask for human life or something?
I told her that human life seems very difficult because we know we are going to die.Other animals perceive death, but not in such a predictive way. . Tell the soul to be an otter instead, I told Iman.
It’s a background hum and it never stops humming. “White Noise” is a new film based on an old novel, both stories about people trying to calm their fear of death.
And in another way, “The Banshees of Inisheerin” is another new film about Corum, a man who suddenly rejects his oldest friend, Padraic.
“Padrake, I just have a tremendous sense of time passing by, and I think I need to spend the time I have left thinking and composing. I just try not to hear more boring stuff,” says Colm.
Corum thinks you should write Jig and Reel and Lament. Otherwise, “In 12 years you’ll die without showing anything except a limited chat with guys?”
The film shows two men balancing. One believes that warm friendships and good conversations are the way we spend our limited time, and the other believes we can create something that lasts longer than him.
I heard Hamlin woke up a little on Thursday. He wanted to know who won the game.
