Libya donated groceries to neighboring countries amid repeated shortages of basic necessities in Tunisia.
A convoy of 96 trucks carrying sugar, oil, flour and rice crossed the Ras Jedir bridge on Tuesday.
The donation came less than two months after Tripoli-based caretaker Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dubeiba visited Tunis with the aim of deepening ties with the government of Tunisian President Kais Said.
The border region between Tunisia and Libya is a thriving trading center.
Tunisia has been in a deep recession since the 2011 revolution, itself driven by economic hardships.
This was exacerbated by the political crisis sparked by the July 2021 coup of Tunisian President Kais Said.
Libya is also destabilized by two rival governments vying for power. However, income from abundant oil reserves makes it relatively wealthy compared to its resource-poor neighbors.
The food donation comes less than two months after Tripoli-based Caretaker Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dubeiba visited Tunis in a move aimed at warming sober ties with Saeed’s government. .
