Editor: I am very disappointed that Lovettsville incorporated the “affordable housing” fallacy into its updated master plan. We wished our town could be better than this.
The term “affordable housing” has nothing to do with making housing “affordable.” Housing, like everything else in the world that people need or want, because the market (no monopolies) is always arranged so that buyers and sellers agree to mutually beneficial exchanges. , affordability is naturally found.
The term “affordable housing” used by progressive politicians today is a nice way of saying “lawful theft of someone else’s labor and property.” With that, Democrats typically use taxpayer dollars to force people to live in neighborhoods or housing units beyond their means, or to forcefully violate the rights of property owners. Americans should be better than this. We are a land of opportunity where people are free to choose their paths and work together for mutual benefit. We cannot be a place where some people can force others to suffer for themselves against their will. It hurts everyone, including the people you’re trying to help.
I urge Lovettsville and other local governments to take future steps to end all programs aimed at “affordable housing.” We fought the Civil War to end such abuse by some groups of people by others. Democrats should be told a firm “no!” And remember, when we ratified the 13th Amendment, we really intended that.
