Professor Owens led a workshop for local New Bedford entrepreneurs to resolve legal issues in starting a business.
UMass Law Visiting Professor Lisa Owens led a workshop focused on legal issues for start-ups and entrepreneurs participating in the New Bedford Economic Developmental Council (NBEDC) NB100. NBEDC’s mission is to support new businesses in the South Coast region by providing entrepreneurial assistance and grant and loan programs focused on local business growth and competitive advantage.
This was the first in a series of workshops led by Professor Owens for NBEDC. Professor Owens designed a workshop specifically for this program based on the needs of entrepreneurs involved in starting a business here on the South Coast. As Visiting Director of the Community Development Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Law School, Professor Owens is committed to connecting the clinic to strong networks of local entrepreneurs and is excited to bring these kinds of resources to the community. . She hopes these workshops will be another step in making the clinic and law school an essential resource for business leaders and changemakers in New Bedford and beyond.
